Symbolism
The owl was the favored bird of Athena, a Greek goddess associated with Philosophy and Wisdom. It was considered a protector of Athens and featured on the city's coins as far back as 500 BCE. For Rational Hedonists, the owl represents the ability to see clearly (rationally) in a world where others wander blindly in darkness (crippled by theistic-based superstitions, guilt/anxiety/phobias; voluntarily uninformed, preferring fluffy Hollywood style sound bytes over "real" news and knowledge; lulled to hypnotic sleep by overly commercialized, mindless television and media-created hype).
