Symbolism

The owl was the favored bird of Athena, a Greek goddess associated with Philosophy and Wisdom. It was considered a protector of Athens and featured on the city's coins as far back as 500 BCE. For Rational Hedonists, the owl represents the ability to see clearly (rationally) in a world where others wander blindly in darkness (crippled by theistic-based superstitions, guilt/anxiety/phobias; voluntarily uninformed, preferring fluffy Hollywood style sound bytes over "real" news and knowledge; lulled to hypnotic sleep by overly commercialized, mindless television and media-created hype).

The hand represents Humanity, how our presence has dominated through building, technological inventions and innovations advancing our culture, our workmanship, creativity, achievements, and the legacy left behind by those who have gone before.
The opposable thumb sets us apart from other animals; allowing our ability for art, to make and play musical instruments, and to write, passing on culture and knowledge.

Every fingerprint represents a unique,
never-to-be-repeated individual. The spirals mark our connection with nature (the Fibonacci Sequence) on this planet and the spiraling galaxies.

Cross section of ammonite fossil
For centuries, the nautilus shell has been used, but due to growing concerns the chambered nautilus may be endangered, R.H. has begun using the already extinct Ammonite fossil instead.  The ammonite's body also moved forward into a new larger chamber as it grew, producing a wall which sealed off the older chambers, symbolizing constantly moving forward, "new beginnings" and leaving the past behind. Death is merely a part of that, moving on to another chapter.
